I've got question about my bilge pump. 2012 ss188ob. When I flip the bilge switch on the dash the pump runs. There is no water in the hull. Looks to be a float on the pump and it moves freely. Its done this since I got the boat new. Is this right?

Yes this is correct. The manual switch at the helm turns on the pump whether there is water in the bilge or not. This allows you to clear the bilge if the automatic float should fail or if there is some water in the bilge but not enough to trigger the automatic float.
