@mpickels, you've left some very important information out in your post which would be the boat you have and/or the size of the fuel tank.
Here is an equation that can be used to calculate maximum fuel consumption.
Formula To Estimate Maximum Engine Fuel Consumption
GPH = (specific fuel consumption x HP)/Fuel Specific Weight
Constants GasSFC .50 lb. per HP
FSW 6.1 lb. per gal.So applying this your specifications it would be (.50x115)/6.1 = 9.42 GPH. That's an approx. max fuel consumption at Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
Since I'm guessing at 25-26MPH you're at about 2/3rd throttle you wouldn't have consumed as much so let's guesstimate your fuel burn was around 6-7GPH.
After 1.8 hrs, I suspect you've burned 12-14 gallons. How big is that tank again?
Certainly sounds like you ran out of fuel since adding fuel and it started right away I'd be inclined to not rely on that new fuel sending unit.
Hope this helps.

I have a FD 196FF which I believe has a 29gal tank. Thanks for the equation! When it shut down I looked astern and saw that I had a dock line trailing; first thought was it had tangled in the prop but it was floating free so decided that was not the problem. With the 12-14 estimation, it would seem I still have half a tank. Wish there was a way to see qty left in tank.... I plan to get with the guy who did the fuel sending unit and see what he thinks.
Thanks for the response/info!!
I have a question about the engine. We are buying a 1998 fun deck with a 1998 Evinrude 115 engine.
I have seen a few things on line that question how good this engine is. Problems with the oil injection system and fuel injection system.
Any thoughts?
