Faria tachometer

The Faria tach on my 226 fundeck has the digital engine hour meter on the bottom of the gauge. To the extreme left on the bottom is a number "8" which blinks on and off. Any ideas what this number signifies?

I think it is a little icon of an hour glass, it means the clock is running.
