SD2400 Hard to Steer

I have a 2011 SD2400 with Yamaha 250 that takes both hands to steer in either idle or underway. The dealer replaced the Seastar hydraulic elm which helped a little but it still takes both hands to turn the wheel. The dealer told me that all SD2400 OB are hard to steer. Is that the case? I am considering adding the power assist to the SeaStar hydraulic steering. Anybody have any experience with this?

Without power assist, I would not be surprised if moving that 250 against prop torque would be difficult, but I'm surprised that it is hard to steer in both directions.
I don't have power assist on my boat, but my brother has it on his...............very nice. Like driving grandpa's Cadillac.2010 Hurricane 2100 (217) Sun Deck

I have a 2015 SD 2400 OB and at idle speed it easy as pie to steer, my 12yo can do it. When at 4K+ RPM out on the ocean it is more "firm" to steer but I wouldn't describe it as difficult. I have the SeaStar hydraulic option.------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shouldn't be that stiff, my 8 year old can drive mine with a 200 on it and turn it easy, I've drove one with power assist abd it was very nice, not worth it to me tho cause mine steers pretty easy as it is.

Just checked Seastar Solutions website. Although not necessary, they do recommend the power assist in outboards of 200HP or greater. I guess that's why they have it as an orderable option for the SD 2400. Maybe the dealers should be making a stronger case to have customers order this when they are buying the boat.2012 SD237 I/O Mercruiser 5.0L MPI ECT/ Bravo 32012 Load Rite Elite Tandem axle trailer
