No power to my Garmin GPS Map441s

I found a loose ground and repaired that and at the same time decided to repair the jury-rigged power connection (hot wire folded over the hot pin on the 12volt outlet) but after doing so I still cant boot the gps. I used my continuity checker and found that (according to the pinout diagram I found at Garmin) the hot pin is dead. New cable is only $25 but it seems odd that this would happen with a molded plug setup such as this unit uses.
