Beaching my Hurricane

I just bought a Hurricane Deck boat today and would like to know if it is ok to beach a deck boat like it is a pontoon?

Any hints or help would be appreciated.

Beaching a fiberglass deckboat will yield damage regardless of how you do it. We usually beach ours but have a hanby's keel guard on it. Yes it has scratches but nothing that won't buff out. I only beach on mud or very fine pea gravel or sand. And only do it where there will be no wave action from boat traffic. You just have to ask yourself how much bottom scratching you are willing to deal with. Just don't ram it ashore like a pontoon.

I routinely beach my 217.  I have a Keel Shield on mine.  I always beach in mud or sand, and avoid gravel, rocks, etc..  After 5 years I see minimal damage to the fiberglass.  I highly recommend the Keel Shield.  It really protects the bottom.

Question. My 2002 SG211 fun Deck has a different keel form, instead of a V shape has a square profile. How do you guys fit the keel guard on that ?

I don't think I've seen that profile before.  All the hull pictures of 2002 SD211's I've seen has the same hull the Ernest T's has.

    Can you post a picture?

yep, keel protector is the way to go. I had the dealer install one before we took delivery. And as ErnestT said, be very careful where you beach. The whole purpose of a pontoon is so you don't have to give a s**t.

I also though the 211 and 217 hulls are identical.

This summer I purchased an "Anchor Buddy".  Essentially a bungy chord for your anchor.  Allows boat to be driven to shore line and then return to anchor a short distance away without the need to beach your boat.  Cost about $35 if I recall.  Can do an internet search and see videos of product in use as well as other info about it.  I have been very pleased with the performance.

When I was shopping around 5 years ago, I was quoted $600 for a Hamby's to be professionally installed.  I'm not sure you can do this one yourself.  That was more than I wanted to spend.

I've used both the Keel Guard, and the Keel Shield guards that I applied myself. They are both pretty good, but I like the Keel Shield better.  The Keel Guard I had separated between the layers.  Keel Guard honored their warranty, and sent me a new one which I promptly sold.
