Gas Cap

I have a 2009 FDGS201. Yesterday while refueling the top link of the gas cap chain somehow came off and the gas cap went into the river, never to be found. I quickly ordered another one from Hurricane (dealer) @ $69.00. But more importantly any suggestions as to how to re attach to the gas receiver tube "more better" than using the chain that will come with the gas cap?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Perko makes a stainless steel cable that can replace a chain if your connections in the fuel fill and the gas cap are compatible with the hardware they supply on the cable ends.
Here?s the link to the product:

?iboats.com? actually has a better description of the product on their site than Perko does:

Other than this product, I?m not aware of another way to change from a chain type tether to another design without changing the base plate that the other design comes with. So you have to install a new deck fill assembly, not just a cap.
There are other gas cap designs that are different than the chain tether style. My previous boat, a 1998 Lund, had a plastic ring that the gas cap spun in and the plastic ring was molded with a tether attached to the base. I?m sure there?s more out there, but here?s some links for you to review to get you started:
Perko makes a bunch of gas fills, this one has a plastic strap connected to the cap and fits 1 ½? hose:

This one is for fuel systems that have the vent hose incorporated into the deck plate base:

Seadog makes a flip design fuel fill for 1 ½? hose:

I?d have to check to see if the hose from the fill to the tank that Hurricane uses is 1 ½? diameter, but that size is pretty common for the marine industry. If you decide to go through the labor to replace the base plate, you need to check if your vent hose is connected to the base or if has a separate vent through the hull. Knowing this will determine what deck plate will work for your boat.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
