Extra Battery

I have a 2008 Sun Deck 2400 with a 250 Yamaha 4-stroke. It came with one battery, but there is a second battery holder and cables. It also has a rotary dial switch that can be turned to one of 4 positions: A or B or Both or Off. My dealer told me that the extra battery is for a trolling motor (which I do not have). However, it occurs to me that the space for the extra battery is just that - an extra battery. Does anyone know if i can simply put another battery in, hook it up and have a reserve if needed? Thank You!

Jeremy,
Thank you for your question. The second battery can be hooked up to the existing selector switch. You would need a 2-AWG jumper for the negative connections. There is no concern for using this as a second battery.

Thank You! The jumper cable is already there.

So will the motor keep both batterys charged and if so can you run the motor in any battery switch position? as in, one, two or both and in both expect the battery to keep charged. Or should we just rotate running on each battery?

I have a GSFD 202 2007, I have three batteries with an on board charger. One for starting and two deep cycle for trolling. Deep cycles are hooked up in series.
