Rubber backing on snap in carpeting

My 1 1/2 year old snap in carpeting is starting to shed some of the rubber backing. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, what did they do to remedy it.

Spray the rubber backing with 303 Aerospace protectant will help keep the rubber from drying out, and sticking to the deck. This may help to delay the process, but I think the problem is the cheap rubber they use on the carpet. I've seen other boats with carpet that had a clear type backing that seems to hold up much better.
