Question concerning the removal of Gas separator and mount

I am unable to remove the Yamaha marine fuel/water separating filter it's stuck. So I need to remove the filter along with the mount. I also need to remove the 2 gas lines one from the tank the other to the motor. The question is will the gas flow freely when I remove the gas line from the gas separator housing? If so what is the best method to turn off the gas flow. I appreciate any help on this matter.
