Hours on the boat?

Hello, Recently purchased a 2012 188 OB. The (what appears to be stock Faria) tachometer showed 595 hours and after a mechanic checked out motor (115 Yamaha 4 stoke) he said the motor indicates 55 hours. Took it out for
about 30 minutes or so and the tach rattled off 3 hours.. 610 to 613. Bought the boat from a third party dealer
selling for another owner. They had no clue. Has anyone had this happen or can explain why these two are not in synch? Clearly the tach is not reading hours.

I recently sold my 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. The mechanic at the Marina said he read 77 hrs. on my motor. It is very simple for a mechanic to read the computer. I would go with the 55 hr. reading.
