Motor up or down when docked?

My 187 s/d has a 140hp Suzuki and floats in a slip all summer (freshwater lake). Should I raise the motor up when we're not using it or leave it down? The motor's air intake is on the back of the cowling so would be pointing straight up if I turned it up.
It's in a lake in NC so grows a film on the hull in just a few weeks and my thought was to avoid that on the prop and gear housing but water in the engine seems worse.
