1998 Fun Deck 201 - 4.3L Mercruiser - Engine Replacement

Hello!
Have a 1998 Fun Deck 201 with 4.3L V6 Mercruiser.
Has a cracked block but we've owned the boat since new and everything else works great.
Considering replacing the engine but was told by a local Hurricane dealer that the engine can't be replaced without cutting the fiberglass hull due to size of opening.
Said it was poor design when it came out and it's been corrected in newer models.
Has anyone heard of this? Just having trouble believing the design was that poor.

Unfortunately, this is correct that the deck will need to be cut for removal of the engine.
