can I change my steering cable without removing motor. eg cutting a slot out of rear well?

I have a 2017 18'10" fun deck boat. Has anyone tried to do it by making the hole in the fiberglass rear well bigger? I'd hate to start cutting, only to find out I still can't get the steering cable out of the tilt tube without removing the engine.

I went ahead and cut out a new 2" hole right next to the existing hole. The cable came out like a dream.
Hurricane should have put the hole 3" further aft when they built the boat. I have a yamaha 115 BTW
