Mercury Force 90 Battery Not Recharging

I just bought a 1996 FD 196 4 OB with what I believe is the original Mercury Force 90 outboard motor. The motor is not recharging the Interstate HD24-DP deep cycle battery. Any ideas?

Update! I took the battery to a local autoparts store and they did a load test on it, and it is no good. Needs to be replaced.
