Should I apply grease, manually, to my chrome steering bar?

I just purchased a new 2013 Hurricane 187 with a E-Tech 130 DPX OB. It has hydraulic Bay Star steering. A friend, who has experienced problems with the steering bar (the chrome bar just in front of the engine) recommended I manually apply grease. His became pitted, lost his steering and had to have it replaced. We are on the Gulf (salt water). The boat is lifted when not in use. Well cleaned but find grease will come off on the rag when cleaning. Thank you!!

There should be grease fittings at the connect points where the bar passes through. Use a grease gun and grease from this point. That way if it comes off, the connect points still have grease in them and lubricates as you steer back/forth

Here's the response from Terri in Hurricane Customer Support:Yes- we would suggest agree that you should grease this steering bar manually and general maintenance.
