Cycling Bilge Pump

I am in the process of buying a Hurricane 2001 237 SD.  I was checking out the boat today and noticed the bilge pump was cycling on/off periodically, probably once every two minutes or so.  I checked the bilge but I didn't see any water.  Each time it cycled I saw a tiny bit of water appear in the pump vents.  I am an experienced boat owner and have experienced many boating opportunities but this is a new one.

That is weird.  My guess would be a faulty float switch.

Thank  you Ernest.  As soon as I take possession of the boat I will check the float switch.  I just registered today on this web site and find it very helpful.  Thanks again. jim

The bilge pumps on these boats are a PITA to get to.  You might want to take a hose and put some water in the bilge first and let it cover the float to see if that would break the on/off cycle.  If that doesn't work, I hop you have long arms or know a mechanic with long arms.

My 2011 Sundeck 188 has the same issue! My 2005 Fundeck 196 had pump and switch mounted on L shaped aluminum plate, it was easier to access
