Yamaha F115 Additives Needed

We have a 2009 FDGS w/a Yamaha F115 motor.
What additives are recommended and how do you use them?

That a question better suited for the engine manufacturer (Yamaha)  The user manual and/or dealer can give you specific advice on what to you.

One item I found on their site was this to reduce carbon buildup ([link=http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/faq/viewfaqanswer/14/8/128/home.aspx]http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/faq/viewfaqanswer/14/8/128/home.aspx[/link])

However, I have Mercury so I'm not familiar with their engine.

Hope that helps and at least points you in the right direction.

Yamaha definitely recommends using Ring Free Plus additives in their outboards.  They even stress this in the newer owners manuals.  As nquirk mentioned it is to help remove carbon build up.  It is 1 oz. per 10 gal. of gas, and it works great to keep the engine clean.  If you have never used it before, they recommend doing a "shock" treatment with 2 oz. per 10 gal.  I get mine here:  [link=http://www.simyamaha.com/]http://www.simyamaha.com/[/link]

If you use fuel with ethanol it is probably a good idea to run either Sta-Bil, or Startron additive to help stabilize the fuel if you are like I am, and end up leaving lots of fuel in the tank between uses.  If you tend to run the tank dry each time, then this may be less of a problem.  Be sure to get the "Marine" version of Sta-bil if you use that.  It seems like it is 1 oz. per 5 gal., but I don't remember for sure...........its on the bottle.

Seafoam is another additive you hear a lot about, but it is more of a fuel injector type cleaner not a fuel stabilizer.  If you have a Yamaha, I'd stay with the Ring Free Plus, and then an additive to counteract the ethanol if you use E-10 fuel.

    What he said

Found out about the ring free when carbon build up made the motor run rough at low speed, happened surprisingly  fast after purchase.

I go to extremes to avoid ethanol fuel, but still use sta bil.......didn't know about marine version will have to check my (walmart) bottle
